9 Important Travel Clothes Tips and Tips for your Trips

By  |

When traveling the suitcase allowances continue to shrink but your wardrobe doesn’t need to.

Scarves-pack clothes without prints and spice them up with scarves. Buy scarves from your trip to feel like a local. They don’t take up much space or weight. Roll them up and put them in a large ziplock bag with a dryer sheet to keep them fresh, wrinkle free and squeeze out the air to maximize luggage space. You can also put them in small ziplock backs to tuck in spots like the empty space in extra shoes (good place for socks also.

Layering essentials-make sure everything can layer from a tank top to T-shirt and then a pullover or button down shirt. You can also layer up on the plane for warmth and to leave space in your suitcase.

Wicking fabrics-buy sports clothes made with a quick dry or wicking fabric. These are easy to wash and dry quickly and are comfortable to wear from hiking to exploring the town.

Yoga pants to dress slacks: many sports companies like lulu lemon have amazing stretchy yoga pants for men (I buy them also) as they look like dress slacks. You can hike and then go to dinner in them. With 4 way stretch and lightweight fabrics they pair beautifully with a top and scarf.

Dry fast fabrics: again make sure all your clothes are dry quick fabrics for washing and comfort. Nothing like a sweaty tshirt at the top of a hill. Wicking and dry quick fabrics are magic travel clothes.

Multi use options: make sure everything is useful for exploring and dinners out so you don’t have to keep running back to change as well as saving the precious luggage space.

Don’t forget your washcloth in Europe: most hotels consider this a “personal item”. I bring along my own microfiber washcloth (drys quick too). And don’t forget the ziplock bags in case you have to check out when it’s wet.

Keep it simple and bring things for comfort not flash, you want to blend in vs stand out when you’re enjoying your travel. This is a packing and safety tip. Pickpockets love busy train stations and tourist spots.

Since I touched on pickpockets. Be sure to keep your money and passport hidden on your person (like a money belt). In your purse only have 10 or 20 dollars of local currency so that when you open your wallet at potential their can see that there isn’t much in there. If someone does grab your wallet, your main credit cards, money, passport, are all safe on your person.
